Business + Clients

I have the best job ever. Furthermore, I have the best clients - ever.

I catch myself saying this often but the reality is that I truly mean it. The people that I work for, the ones who hire me, make my job enjoyable and the work that I produce work that I love. Most importantly, they make my job more than merely a job. In weddings, I am often a dress holder, veil catcher, eyelash gluer, and many, many more. I am also constantly asked to sit down at a pretty table and enjoy a lovely meal. "Put down the camera! Eat! Have a little fun!"

On portrait jobs, my clients often volunteer to carry my gear, hold a reflector, and simply just want to chat. And often, they still want to feed me. My goodness, you people are amazing! Yesterday I photographed a sweet little girl who has recently turned one. I met her last year when she was tiny and this year she is still gorgeous. The best part, I was able to bring my little one with me, and we were treated to some delicious cupcakes. Yum! After our session, we just couldn't help but stroll down the convention center, enjoy our treat, and simply enjoy the fact that I can be a stay at home mom, do work that I love, and spend my time with a sweet little princess who calls me mom.

My little one and I enjoyed a day's work and treats afterwards, as did the new baby in my tummy.

Thank you God. You are truly amazing… leading me on a path to my very own happiness.

And special thank you to RGV Cupcake Factory in McAllen, Texas and Sabrina for the royal treatment. Thank you!

Bridal Packets | Behind the Scenes at the Office

I thought it would be nice to share with you a peek at what my bridal packets look like since I feel very proud of the love and craftsmanship I put into creating them. After a late lunch with my parents earlier today, I thought I'd step into the office and get some photos of these packets done before I mailed them off. Setting the layout and snapping the photos would be fairly quick and effortless.

Then I remembered my Abigail was awake.

After a few minutes, I finally thad the images I was aiming for and a quick job was finally finished. As a business owner, all the responsibilities land on my shoulders to take care of. Not only am I the photographer, but I am also in charge of the business aspect, and, because of my inherent nature, I am also director of creativity. The latter is definitely my most favorite job title aside from photographer. I enjoy expressing my creativity and love making pretty things.

Anyway, I put all my love into these little packets and two of them went off in the post this afternoon. There is some pretty-ness headed your way Texas and Massachusetts!

My sweet little one is always two steps behind me, everywhere I go. I tell my husband that sometimes I am trying to meet a deadline and when I finally get her to nap, all I want to do is wake her up because I miss her. Motherhood, so sweet isn't it? Yes, yes it is. Getting my work done is much more complicated now and the office doesn't last clean longer than a day but I have the best mini-me assistant with me 24 hours a day. I am blessed.

Happy Friday!

February Goals.

Ahh! We are well into completing the first week of February and I have yet to sit down, think about, and write out my business goals for 2014. Since the odds of that actually happening now are rather slim, I figured I will just dive right in and set some goals to accomplish in the month of February. I'll focus now on monthly goals and work really hard on trying to achieve them. In this way, I may be more motivated to accomplish things throughout the year rather than procrastinating.

1.)   Maintain a clean office space - I place emphasis on the word maintain. I clean my office constantly but I seem to be lacking in the capability of maintaining it that way. If I maintained it clean, I would probably have less stress to clean more often and focus on working. After each thorough cleaning, my office looks pristine and inviting. Then a few days pass by and when I step back in to work on something, big or small project, I end up creating a huge mess. I think the solution to this problem is I need to focus on creating a real "work space or area" where I can really sit down to do the manual labor I often work on for various projects. I am hoping this will keep me from putting things all over the floor, the chairs, my desk and sofa. The closet also needs to be cleaned and organized: this is a must!!

2.)  Clean my desk - I suppose this could be included in the aforementioned goal but I chose to write it out separately so that I can really tackle this and accomplish it. I have four empty drawers in my desk that currently house random junk that really should not be readily available to me. I need to organize my flies and have things I need at my desk to be found on my desk.

3.)  Pricing Guide - It is imperative that I update my pricing guide and have a handful readily available. I'll need to delete any old and outdated files in my hard drive as well so that I don't have to open a million files before finding the correct one. I am hoping that by having this easily accessible and readily available, I will be more efficient at bookings over the next coming months.

At the beginning of the next month, I'll share some new goals to accomplish and discuss the hopeful success of accomplishing these current goals. I know it's only three small goals, but I figured I should be realistic with myself. Ha! I promise to kick it up a notch next month ;)

Lastly, for a visual effect, here's an oldie but a goodie from a 2011 San Isidro, Texas Engagement session.
