Mini Session - Baby Gabriel - Mission, Texas

Yee-haw! Texas just got a brand new cowboy! Baby Gabriel arrived in this world a few weeks ago and I had the pleasure of photographing him. Photographing him was a complete joy and he was such a trooper. His mommy and grandma were on hand to make sure baby was always comfortable and fed... totally making my job way easier!

When photographing babies, I am amazed at how tiny they are. It's amazing to think that little baby in front of me can grow so quickly. This certainly reminds me how beautiful life is and how blessed mommies are to have babies.

Baby Gabriel, like most babies, needed time to feed, time to cry, and time to become comfortable in the new environments we placed him. But thanks to his wonderful Grandma, the three of us were able to pull off a great baby-mini-session. Gabriel makes one cute photogenic baby!

Sweet Dreams!

Portraits - The Lopez Family - McAllen, Texas

It is certainly worth repeating... the best part of my job is meeting and befriending new people. My clients are truly the most awesomely cool people I get to meet on a daily basis. Each individual, couple, baby, child and family I photograph I get to learn a little about them and catch a glimpse into who they are. As a photographer, you view them through your viewfinder and compose the images. As an individual, I view them with large-sponge-like eyes. I hope I didn't just creep you out... let me explain :)

When I am photographing them I view them in two ways: through the viewfinder and with my eyes, my real eyes. By real eyes I guess I mean my character and the emotions I perceive they express. In other words, as I am capturing the photograph at an exact moment I am already viewing them in a deeper form, one  that allows me to create their session around their specific personalities.  This yields personal images of my subject(s) in their most candid and natural states <-- my favorite!!!

Photographing the Lopez family a few days ago was no different. Kristina and Ruben along with their handsome baby boy were so easy to capture on camera. Baby Micah was such a good baby and never once did he get fussy... total brownie points on my end! The three of them make a beautiful family and their personalities emerged in their photographs.

Their session was so much fun and I am delighted to have met them. Ruben is such a great dad and extremely proud of his little boy. Kristina is a wonderful mother completely in love with her son and husband. Micah, Micah is absolutely adorable. The three of them compose such a sweet and loving family.

Micah turns one whole year old on a very special day... Merry Christmas and Happy Birthday to you Micah!! Be blessed :)

Take a look for yourself...

Happy Monday!!

Portrait Collection - Ana Flores

The best part of my job is meeting all of the wonderful people I photograph. Each individual has an unique story, a special thing that makes them who they are. As our sessions progress, I get to know tons about them and I enjoy that just as much as I enjoy taking the actual photographs.

Ana called a few weeks ago and scheduled a portrait collection with me. When we met up the day of her session, she was so easy to talk to and her husband and daughter, who both accompanied her, were lovely to meet. The four of us enjoyed laughter as Ana's session went underway.

Ana is a beautiful young woman who is also an amazing mother. Her daughter is graduating kindergarten in May and Ana wanted to capture some cap and gown photos with the two of them together. Ana will be graduating in a few weeks from the University of Texas Pan American. I thought this was an amazing concept as it really shows a mother setting a great example for her child.

Ana mentioned a few days before her session how she didn't photograph well and felt uncomfortable in front of the camera. Ha! She was a complete natural in front of the camera! Photogenic is an understatement... she was a total model. And her daughter, just like her beautiful mommy :)

Soon, Ana will be college graduate pursuing a career in education. I have faith that she will excel in the role of teacher. You are a wonderful young woman Ana and I wish you all the success in the world. I am delighted to have met you and should tell you that you have a wonderful spirit! Congratulations on your graduation!!!

Now for photos!

Ana enjoys photography, so naturally we had to capture her working her magic...

This is my favorite... it was after her session was done and I snapped this as she relaxed ;)

Happy Thursday!!!

Peace. Love. and Shoes. - Claudia Gonzalez - Portraits

I have had the thought of shooting in an orange orchard for a whole year now. I have been wanting to do some sort of hippie session but figured I'd had to set it up myself because it wasn't an idea leaping from the minds of my clients - until Claudia came along. Claudia wanted a Portrait Collection and she had some specific thoughts in mind. I remember listening to her and writing down all of her ideas she wanted me to incorporate into her shoot. She was so charming and sweet over the phone and I realized I had found the perfect person to bring to life my ideas. But credit is due to Claudia herself... she wanted to do something hippy with a 70's flare but still keep it somewhat modern.

I was so excited for her shoot and just had to find the perfect location, with orchards.

Claudia is a beautiful, tall woman with legs for days. She is a self-proclaimed shoe addict and I couldn't have branded her better. When we met, she had a luggage just for shoes! Yes, shoes for a one and half hour session. Thankfully, I love shoes and much more-so the fact that she was so creative. Her enthusiasm paralleled mine and made me a much better photographer during her session.

Claudia's long hair was a perfect prop for her session. Her personality, however, really stole the heart of the images. The woman you see in her photographs is truly a fun, loving and carefree individual. She has such an easygoing spirit and it totally bequeaths her :)

Claudia, thank you for choosing me to execute your vision. You were so much fun to spend the morning and such a trooper during the chilly weather! You have such a great fashion style and an impeccable taste for shoes. Above all, I am certainly glad we got to meet and I hope you enjoy your photos.

Because I couldn't resist, a collection in black and white....

You are beautiful Claudia!!!

Happy Wednesday! :)

Allison & Eli - Kyle, Texas Wedding

When I first decided I wanted to become a wedding photographer, I dreamt of the time when I would book weddings out of my area. For someone who loves to travel, I have many places I still need to see and much of those places are still in my state. I want to see places famous on maps and places so quaint GPS cannot find them. But at a mere 25 years of age, the vast world is still largely unexplored for me. I hoped to change that through my wedding photography. A few weeks ago I took the first step towards global domination...

Really, I took that step almost a year ago when I booked my very first "destination wedding." Even better, my couple was from out of state and of all the photographers in this whole wide world, they chose me. Me.

Allison and Eli were my first couple to book me without ever having met or spoken to me. I was a tad bit nervous during our initial "consultations" but I was way too excited to pass up on a great opportunity. I remember back in March giddily announcing to Chris I had booked a wedding out of South Texas with a California couple. California... "as in out-of-state Chris!!!"

All year I looked forward to November because I would get to meet an amazingly sweet couple and travel out of South Texas all on my own... So many new and exciting things have happened in my life since I booked Allie and Eli's wedding back in March. More-so, my photography business has grown drastically and I have learned many, many more things both in the art and business perspective.

Well November finally rolled around and I managed to make my way up to central Texas with the help and support of my family, chris and his family. And guess what, I absolutely loved it!!! I realized, when I met Eli and Allie, that I had chosen the right career patch when I put law school on the back burner. Meeting my new friends was exciting and although we only knew each other for a few minutes the day before the wedding, I felt like I had come to learn so much about them.

Facebook has been an amazing tool in growing my photography. It has also, however, been wonderful to befriend my clients and keep in touch with them aside from the usual business emails and calls. Although I had never met Eli and Allie, I felt like I had learned about them through Allie's quirky status updates. It felt like meeting someone I already knew. There were no awkward moments and instead I felt so at ease and almost at home with them. They were so kind and caring, truly caring for their wedding photographer.

Ultimately, the crowning moment - business wise - was when Allie crouched down next to me, in her beautiful wedding gown, and thanked me for making her feel so comfortable. Ding! I absolutely love my job.

Eli serves in the United States military and I'd like to thank him for his courage. You are a hero among many Eli, and most importantly, a hero to your family. As I observed him throughout his wedding day and during their rehearsal, I noticed his leadership qualities. He's a "take-charge" kind of man and I am sure that makes a great balance with Allison. Allie is a hairstylist and quite talented. She is so down to earth and so kind. Above all, she is very caring... the bride herself was helping her bridesmaids get ready. Together, Allison and Eli are in love - with each other. It is obvious in the way the speak to one another and in the glances they steal from each other. I am proud to have met them both.

Allie and Eli, thank you so much, from the bottom of my heart, for trusting and choosing me to capture your beautiful wedding. It was a pleasure to spend your most important day with you and I hope that the two of you remember every single detail of your wedding through my photographs. You both are so kind and caring and the love you share for one another is apparent in each image. But in person, in person you two are so in love. I wish you every blessing in this world and all the happiness God has in store for you. Be blessed!

The wedding day started with some forecasted rain, but the day was beautiful regardless. The day could not have been more perfect for two people in love...

Allison and Eli opted for a First Look.... they saw each other prior to the ceremony. I am so glad they did for both professional and personal reasons. From a photographer's point of view, it was perfect for them to do a First Look because the wedding day timeline ran so much smoother. Their quiet first glance at each other was recorded through the following images. First Looks yield utterly romantic images, just take a look for yourself...

After their First Look, Allison and Eli had ample time for portraits... absolute perfection!

Congratulations Allie and Eli...
